The Comedy Store: Where the Talent is Priceless
July 03, 2017
West Hollywood’s Comedy Store is more than just a comedy club; it’s an L.A. institution. Formerly the elegant Ciro’s nightclub, which regularly catered to the biggest stars of the silver screen, made its transition to comedy club in 1972, with the inimitable Johnny Carson as one of its inaugural stand-up performers. But the Comedy Store isn’t some faded remnant of yesteryear that relies on the reputation of your dad’s favorite funny men to draw tourists. Even after 45 years, this venue still churns out the best new talent in the business and regularly brings back perennial favorites to the delight of audiences. To give you an idea of the caliber of the performances, alumni of the club include Jim Carrey, Dave Chappelle, Louis CK, Dane Cook, Kathy Griffin, Chelsea Handler, Kevin Hart, Chris Rock, Ray Romano, Sarah Silverman, Robin Williams, and dozens more who have become household names. With its three stages and ample selection of booze and pub food, there’s something worth watching seven nights a week at this comedy-lover’s paradise.
