A Magical Journey to Mexico with the Circus of the Sun
January 08, 2018
Over thirty years ago, two unknown street performers, Guy Laliberté and Gilles Ste-Croix, set out to redefine the parameters of the circus arts. Today, their vision has become the internationally renowned Cirque du Soleil, with more than twenty unique shows currently underway on every continent except Antarctica (and we wouldn’t be surprised if there’s something in the works there too). One of Cirque du Soleil’s latest productions, Luzia, will be on stage at L.A.’s Dodger Stadium from now through February 11. This show, whose name is a portmanteau of the Spanish luz (meaning “light”) and lluvia (meaning “rain”), weaves together a series of opposing strands—the traditional and the modern, metropolis and mesa, sky and sea—into a fantastical tapestry of an imagined Mexico. You’ll marvel at the awe-inspiring feats of these acrobats, contortionists, and entertainers of all stripes who have spent years honing their skills to become the best in the world.
