The green economy is an alternative economy based on renewable energy. The Grafton on Sunset is committed to becoming a green hotel in Los Angeles.
Recycling:
We take recycling very seriously. Here are the basics of our Sunset Strip hotel’s recycling program:
Paper cups for your morning coffee – 100% recycled.
Copy paper and printed material – partially recycled and recycled paper.
Tissue – recycled and just as soft as ever!
We donate linens and towels and other items to local charities.
We recycle our electrical materials, metal and anything else we can.
We fix before we replace.
We buy recycled whenever possible. Plus, we are careful shoppers and try to avoid the purchase of materials that are not recyclable (i.e. foam).
Supporting the local market:
Sustaining tourism is one of the greatest challenges for a city. One of our basic contributions to the green hotel movement is that we buy local. Not only will your food taste fresher, but there will be less Co2 emitted in the transportation of foods. Check out just a few tricks Olive Kitchen + Bar have on their plate:
Buy all their fresh produce from local farms.
Buy organic whenever possible.
All grease is converted to Bio Diesel (off-site).
Olive Kitchen + Bar is a new addition to the Grafton on Sunset and with this they took great care in their décor concepts and the materials used. Wood materials used were recycled.
All to-go containers are made from 100% recycled materials.
Olive continues to pursue both a holistic and green initiative making them a conscious contribution to the green economy.
Water Conservation:
Los Angeles in Southern California is a cosmopolitan desert and that is why the Grafton on Sunset tries to conserve as much water as possible. Here are some of the ways we conserve:
Plaque cards in your room offer the option of conserving water – it's not a greed thing, it's a green thing!
Linen re-use program.
Towel re-use program.
Limit the watering of plants and over time, we're introducing native species into our landscaping, thus reducing their water requirements.
Water saving shower heads & faucets.
Low flush lavatories.
Water saving laundry machines.
Laundry products that are both effective and biodegradable.
Energy Efficiency:
Oil, coal and fossil fuels will not last forever, and that's why we are making an effort today.
Energy Star products.
Paint with low VOC's.
Energy efficient lighting.
Rechargeable batteries in all our electronics, tools and devices.
Our car service: we're not going to replace our car any time soon, at least until it pays off the carbon debt of its manufacture! Regular tender loving care and consistent servicing reduces its pollution.
